I usually shoot news and long feature pieces, but sometimes I get the chance to shoot something different. Bufori is a custom car company that hand makes luxury saloons and sports cars. They unveiled their brand new Bufori “Geneva” at the 80th Geneva International Motor Show and approached me about making a short film to showcase it, to be shown on various screens at the show. — DSLR News Shooter

Recently the folk at Nikon Professional Services got in touch with me to see if I’d like to work with them on some videos that they wanted to make. They are starting to produce a series of videos highlighting the work of some Australian photographers and they wanted to shoot this one with me — their first one — entirely on the new Nikon D3s camera. I’ve been using the D3 for the last 20 months and their new D3s is an upgrade with a new sensor and, at the press of one button, shoots high-definition video. Would I like to play? Wot me? HECK YEAH!!! — Simon Carter

I recently learned about a new and very innovative video contest sponsored by Canon and hosted by the video sharing site, Vimeo. After seeing the impressive opening video here on Vimeo.com, my interest was further piqued. It’s called: “The Story Beyond The Still Contest,” and it allows photographers and videographers to “showcase their creativity in a new style of filmmaking that blends still and video images into a continuous cinematic piece begun by Canon Explorer of Light Vincent Laforet.” — Andrew Darlow

I. Love. Photo Mechanic. End of story. This one program has saved hours and hours of my post production time in the last six months that I’ve been using it. How do I use it? Well, as I state in the screencast above, I only scratch the surface of what it can do but just watch how fast this program is. I can not say enough great things about it. It is available for Mac and PC. — Zack Arias

Last week we assembled a crew to help us on a three day shoot in an old abandoned mansion. I set one day aside for everyone on set to have time to grab some gear, grab a model, and shoot for themselves as payment for helping me on the other two days of shooting. Knowing that competition can bring the best out in a person I decided we should have a shootout. I posted the images here on the blog and had you all vote. — Zack Arias

This week I wanted to tackle a tiny setting in the Lightroom 3 beta that you’ll want to be aware of. It’s called the Process Version. Even if you’re not using the LR3 beta, this will eventually come into play in your life in the full version of LR 3 when it comes out, as well as Camera Raw. — Matt Kloskowski

I really dig that we’re in a new era of photography where like minded shooters enjoy gathering to learn. I prefer to shoot photos rather than give classes or seminars, but I DO like to create these environments that allow photographers to experiment, socialize, and learn together. — Chase Jarvis

They are just pictures, but pictures that cant be taken again. The Yangtze River, which forms the premise to this body of work, is the main artery that flows 4100 miles (6500km) across China, travelling from its furthest westerly point in Qinghai Providence to Shanghai in the East. I love Nikon camera bodies and lenses. This is not a post that is intended to imply Nikon is a bad company, their cameras suck or that the Nikon user base is full of losers. It’s not – really.
This is a post describing why Canon DSLRs have the lead in the fusion space. Comparing the video from a D3s to a Canon 1DMKIV, serious video/filmmaker types (and those who aspire to be serious like me) prefer the Canon. — Scott Bourne

I’ve heard you say that there’s nothing to take a picture of. I’ve heard you say you don’t know what to make, when to make it, how to make it, what to do. I’ve heard you say that you don’t know how to get your work "out there". I’ve heard you say that you don’t know what to put on your blog. I’ve heard. I’ve heard. I’ve heard. And I promise you, I too have said all these things. — Chase Jarvis

Our culture is more saturated with images than ever, but we’re also more involved in creating and spreading those pictures through easily available technology and the Web. Cameraphones — the standard phone type now, rather than the exception — are plugged straight into the Web, enabling uploads in just a few clicks. Wi-Fi storage cards, as photographer Stephen Ferry explains, are shattering even that final gap in the "immediacy circuit." In other words, photos can be spread worldwide milliseconds after the shutter is pressed, an unbelievable process even 10 years ago. — Thomas Houston

As you know, 1.2v NiMH rechargeable batteries recycle most flashes faster than do 1.5v standard alkaline batts. This is because the NiMH’s excel at delivering current, which is usually the bottleneck in the flash’s recycle rate.
But what if you could combine the fast current delivery of an NiMH with a voltage that is even higher than an alkaline? — David Hobby
