It’s amazing how a little processing can change the look of an image.  This is especially true when the image process is HDR in nature.  There are so many looks to HDR and it seems that most folks really like that hyper-realistic look that comes from pushing the sliders to their max.  If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, check out this image from inside the St. Salvator’s Cathedral.  I shot a 3-shot series of images for this picture and then used Photomatix Pro to create the HDR and tone map for the final look.  — Jeff Revell

I’ve always known that having a model release was necessary if I planned to sell a photo to a magazine, but lots of people just have a verbal agreement with their models for all kinds of things like company pictures (where the company plans to use the images for publicity), stock photography, or even pictures of clients you plan on using in your portfolio to illustrate the quality of your work to potential clients. I knew that wasn’t the best approach, but I also thought on numerous occasions, ‘what the heck. Nothing bad will happen.’ Not only is a lack of a model release a bad idea for general business purposes, having the right model release is the mark of a professional and it helps you be more credible.  — Larry Becker

About a month ago, I purchase and posted about my new iPod Touch . I liked it except that it was only useful around my own home network or at places like Starbuck where Wi-Fi is available. I already have the second generation of iPod and the songs and images capabilities are about the same. Neither has a camera. I purchased it at Costco and was able to return it for a full refund. I’ve been struggling for the last couple of weeks to find a way to photograph the Japanese Magnolia trees(Magnolia soulangiana) on our property—they’ve been blossoming since late February and have been particularly beautiful this year.
